Cambria Maternity Photo Session

Cambria Beach Maternity Photo Session

This Cambria maternity photo session was so special because the location felt like part of the family story.

This beautiful couple both work as lifeguards for Los Angeles, so the ocean is not just a backdrop for them. It is part of their daily rhythm, their love story, their strength, and now, the beginning of their baby’s story too. Photographing them along the Central Coast, with the waves rolling in, the sea breeze moving through her shirt and skirt, and the sunlight pouring through the trees, felt incredibly meaningful.

We started near the boardwalk and coastal greenery, where the light came through the cypress trees in these wild, golden beams. I loved how tender those first images felt. His hands resting on her belly, her smile tucked into his, the two of them standing quietly in the middle of all that sunshine. Maternity photos do not always have to be overly posed or formal. Sometimes the most beautiful images come from simply letting two people be together and documenting what is already there.

Then we made our way down to the beach, where everything opened up into wind, waves, rocks, and that bright Cambria coastline. She looked so natural and radiant walking along the shore, letting the water move around her feet. There was such a beautiful balance in this session: strength and softness, playfulness and peace, anticipation and pure joy.

Because they are both lifeguards, it felt especially perfect to end the session in the water. The ocean became part of the portrait, not just scenery. They laughed, held hands, stood together in the waves, and cradled her belly as the tide moved around them. Those images feel like a love note to their baby: before you were here, we were already surrounded by water, light, and so much love.

That is one of my favorite things about maternity photography. These photos are not just about documenting pregnancy. They become emotional anchors. Years from now, this baby will be able to see where they began, held by two parents who looked so happy, so present, and so ready to love them.

A Cambria maternity photo session is such a dreamy idea because the Central Coast offers so much natural variety in one session: ocean, cliffs, rocks, wildflowers, coastal paths, soft sand, and glowing light. For families who feel connected to nature, the beach, or the Central Coast, it creates a setting that feels honest and alive.

This session had saltwater in its bones and sunshine in its pockets. A perfect beginning for a baby already surrounded by courage, tenderness, and the sea. 🌊

Cal Poly and Cuesta Graduation Portraits

Cal Poly Photographer

As a San Luis Obispo photographer, I love capturing college graduation portraits that honor not only the achievement itself, but also the energy, pride, and possibility that come with this season of life. Logan graduated from the nursing program at Cuesta College, Nate and friends graduated from Cal Poly, and David graduated from Cal State East Bay… allexciting milestones worth celebrating in a big way.

These graduation sessions in San Luis Obispo are such a fun way to celebrate. Bring a friend or a whole group of friends, a few bottles of champagne, or any props that feel personal to you. The photos are beautiful, but the best part is the memory of being together, laughing, celebrating, and documenting this unforgettable chapter with college graduation portraits you’ll always treasure.

Cambria Family Photographer

Cambria photographer, family photographer, family of 6 photo session, kids, beach, vacation, fun, family friendly, family photos, Debbie Markham

As a Cambria family photographer, I get a front-row seat to the kind of joy you can’t stage, you can only catch. This week’s session was a family of six with four kids under ten, tumbling through a beach morning like a happy little weather system: salty hair, sand-speckled cheeks, and that unstoppable vacation energy. And honestly, vacation is the best time to take photos. Everyone’s already exhaling. The schedule is softer, the mood is lighter, and the ocean does half the work by turning even “regular moments” into something frame-worthy. We wandered the coastline, paused where the cliffs curve just right, and let the kids be kids, because the best family images usually happen in the in-between: the hand squeeze, the giggle attack, the sprint back to mom.

One pro tip that saves the day (and your patience): bring treats. Photo shoots are fun, but they can feel long for little bodies after posing eight times in eight different spots along the beach and coastline. A small stash of easy snacks, a favorite candy, or even a “photo shoot treasure” can turn the whole experience into a game instead of a grind. I’ll guide you through the posing quickly, then we’ll keep moving, keep it playful, and keep the focus on connection over perfection. The result is a gallery that feels like your family, not a stiff version of you, and that’s the magic I feel lucky to document again and again here on the Cambria shore. 🌊📷
